Governance Assessment in Service Delivery - Knowledge Exchange Event
The meeting was held on the 20th of March 2013 via video conference with the World Bank head office in Washington, D.C. (USA). The event took place in the Regional Information Technology & Software Engineering Center in Zamalek, Cairo.

Governance and transparency of healthcare systems is an area of growing concern. Citizens and other stakeholders seek greater voice and inclusion into policy reforms and setting a shared vision for socio-political and economic prosperity. Against this backdrop WBI is now supporting initiatives to create coalitions—consisting of governmental and non-governmental actors—to identify national, sector-specific priorities and to form joint strategies for sustainable development. In Egypt, the coalition seeks to collaboratively champion a sustainable change process that leads to better governance and accountability in the national health system. Over the next 12 months, a series of comprehensive Knowledge Exchange Events is planned.

This first Knowledge Exchange Event covered definitions of and approaches to measuring governance, i.e.:

-The role of governance assessments in the services delivery process

-Methodological approaches

-Mechanisms for carrying out governance and anti-corruption diagnostics

-Principles of national ownership in undertaking governance assessments

-Case studies highlighting lessons and experiences from countries in the MENA region and elsewhere.
